What is the Ruang Reka Programme?

  • Ruang Reka is a complete Science, Technology and Innovation Design Hub focused on developing creative and innovative solutions to address local and socioeconomic issues.
    1. It is an open hub that combines elements of Carft (Art & Craft) workshop, machine workshop or studio where members of the public, academics/students, start-ups, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as well as the community as a whole come together to share their knowledge and resources, particularly in the field of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economics (STIE), and then build and create something using a variety high-tech tools and materials.
    2. YIM is targeting more than 15,000 students and members of the community who will benefit from STIE culture by implementing this programme.
  • This programme provides participants with hands-on learning, training, and technical assistance in order to disseminate knowledge, skills, and practical experience.
    1. Other skills development modules offered are digital economics, 3D printing, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and electronics.
    2. In addition, this programme also implements talent development through design thinking and mentoring modules.
  • YIM plans to build 10 more Ruang Reka projects in Malaysia by 2021, comprising 2 flagship Ruang Reka and 8 Mini Ruang Reka in various selected locations
    1. There are 3 Ruang Reka pilot projects located in Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu and Johor that are currently in the development phase.

  • This programme aims to improve community involvement in Ruang Reka, especially among:
    1. Youths;
    2. Students;
    3. Start-up companies;
    4. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs); and
    5. Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
